Pakistan Warns Against Houthi Threats to Bab al-Mandab, Stands Firmly With Saudi Arabia
Pakistan has voiced strong opposition to attempts by Yemen’s Houthi movement to turn the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait into a zone of conflict, warning that attacks on commercial shipping pose a serious threat to international trade and regional security.
Islamabad has also renewed its support for Saudi Arabia, emphasizing its commitment to the Kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
Pakistan’s position was presented by Ambassador Usman Jadoon, the country’s acting permanent representative to the United Nations, during a UN Security Council discussion on maritime security and emerging technologies.
Islamabad Raises Alarm Over Threats to Maritime Trade
Addressing the Security Council, Ambassador Jadoon expressed concern over attacks targeting commercial vessels and seafarers in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
He stressed that international waterways must remain safe for commercial navigation and should not become tools of political or military pressure.
The Pakistani envoy warned that threatening merchant ships could have consequences far beyond the immediate conflict zone, potentially disrupting international trade and creating economic uncertainty.
The Bab al-Mandab Strait is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. Its strategic location makes it essential for shipping between Europe, Asia and other international markets.

Pakistan Expresses Solidarity With Saudi Arabia
Pakistan also used its statement at the United Nations to reaffirm its longstanding support for Saudi Arabia.
Ambassador Jadoon reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing the importance of protecting Saudi Arabia against security threats.
The statement reflects the close relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which maintain strong diplomatic, economic and security ties.
Islamabad has consistently supported efforts aimed at ensuring stability across the Middle East and preventing conflicts from escalating into wider regional confrontations.

Bab al-Mandab Security Becomes a Global Concern
The growing threats to maritime traffic in the Red Sea region have attracted international attention because of the waterway’s importance to global commerce.
Any prolonged disruption in the Bab al-Mandab Strait could force shipping companies to consider alternative routes, increasing transportation expenses and delivery times.
Such disruptions could also affect energy supplies, food shipments and other essential goods transported through international maritime networks.
For countries dependent on imports and exports, instability in major shipping corridors can create additional economic pressure.
Pakistan Calls for Stability and Safe Navigation
Pakistan’s position highlights the importance of protecting international maritime routes from military threats and ensuring the safety of civilian seafarers.
The country has stressed the need for regional stability and responsible international cooperation to address growing maritime security challenges.
With tensions continuing across the Middle East, the security of the Bab al-Mandab Strait remains an important issue for regional governments and the wider international community.
Pakistan’s latest remarks send a clear diplomatic message: threats to commercial shipping and Saudi Arabia’s security are matters of serious concern for Islamabad.
